Taiwo Awoniyi has won the 'Beyond the Pitch' Award at the 2026 Best of Africa Awards in London. The award recognises his humanitarian work and his support for community development in Nigeria, Leadership and Complete Sports report.
The Coventry City and Super Eagles forward was praised for using his profile to back social development, healthcare and youth empowerment at home. The Best of Africa Awards are held every year with the support of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA). They honour people of African heritage who are driving social change.
A big part of his work is the Kwara Kiddies League, which he funds. The league gives young players in Ilorin and across Kwara State organised matches to play in. It also hands out kits, equipment and cash prizes to keep children involved in the game, according to both outlets.
Awoniyi reacted on Instagram. "Life can give you so much, but what truly matters is what you choose to do with what you've been given," he wrote. "Grateful to receive the PFA Beyond the Pitch Award at the Best of Africa Awards 2026."
Leadership notes that the award recognises his efforts beyond football, especially his commitment to creating opportunities for young people through grassroots sport.
