Dynamo Dresden beat Schalke 04 2-0 at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion on Wednesday 28 October to reach the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal. It was one of four second-round ties that kicked off at 18:00 WAT.

The first half finished 0-0. Patrice Čović gave Dresden the lead on 53 minutes, finishing from close range at the back post after a cross from the left by Simon Straudi, Sportschau and BBC Sport report. Christoph Daferner, on as a substitute, headed in the second from a corner on 88 minutes after Schalke goalkeeper Loris Karius misjudged the ball.

Thomas Stamm's Dresden were the better side, Sportschau says, while Miron Muslić's Schalke created little. Edin Džeko started up front for Schalke, his first game since a head wound against Mainz.

In Freiburg, Keisuke Goto came off the bench and scored twice as SC Freiburg beat VfL Wolfsburg 3-2. Igor Matanović headed Freiburg in front on 6 minutes, but Kento Shiogai equalised two minutes later and headed Wolfsburg ahead on 43 minutes. Goto headed in a Vincenzo Grifo corner to make it 2-2 with about a quarter of an hour left, then ran onto a long ball from Philipp Lienhart and lifted it over goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther for the winner in stoppage time.

VfB Stuttgart needed a 90th-minute goal from captain Deniz Undav to win 1-0 at SC Paderborn. Paderborn hit the post through Marvin Pieringer in the fourth minute, but Laurin Curda was sent off on 37 minutes for a heavy tackle on Bilal El Khannouss. Paderborn goalkeeper Markus Schubert then made a string of saves, three of them from Ermedin Demirović, before Undav finished Chris Führich's cross from the left.

Hertha BSC won 2-0 away to regional side SSV Jeddeloh II. Captain Josip Brekalo scored on 57 minutes and Julian Eitschberger added the second six minutes later, Sportschau reports.

Four more second-round games kick off at 20:45 WAT on Wednesday: Bayer Leverkusen v 1. FC Nürnberg, Bayern Munich v 1. FC Magdeburg, Hannover 96 v 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Holstein Kiel v TSG Hoffenheim. Sportschau says the draw for the last 16 is on Sunday 1 November.
