Palmeiras missed the chance to go top of the Brasileirão on Wednesday 28 October. Abel Ferreira's side drew 0-0 with Santos at Vila Belmiro in matchday 33, in a game that kicked off at 23:30 WAT.
The draw takes Palmeiras to 70 points from 33 games, level with leaders Flamengo, who have played 32. Flamengo stay first because they have more wins (21 to 20), as Mengão 360 explained before the game, and they can open a gap when they face Vasco da Gama at the Estádio Nilton Santos on Thursday 29 October (00:00 WAT Friday).
Santos had the better first-half chances, Terra and Jogada10 report. Gabriel Barbosa (Gabigol) was through one-on-one with goalkeeper Carlos Miguel but shot straight at him, and Santos players wanted a penalty on 35 minutes when Philippe Coutinho's chip struck Agustín Giay, but referee Flávio Rodrigues de Souza waved play on, judging the ball hit his shoulder. ESPN's match data shows seven yellow cards, four of them for Palmeiras. Santos move to 47 points in eighth place.
At the Maracanã, Fluminense ended a run of three straight league defeats with a 2-1 comeback win over Internacional. Alan Patrick put Inter ahead 57 seconds into the second half, finishing low across goal after a move between Vitinho and Matheus Bahia, Lance! and R7 report. Hércules drew Fluminense level on 78 minutes with a first-time right-foot strike after a Renê free-kick was only half cleared.
Lucho Acosta then scored the winner from close range in the seventh minute of stoppage time, ESPN's match data shows. Fluminense go to 54 points, level with Cruzeiro and Athletico Paranaense, who both have a game in hand. Internacional stay 16th on 35 points, just one point above rivals Grêmio in the relegation zone.
In Bragança Paulista, Wallace Yan scored either side of half-time, on 43 and 51 minutes, as Red Bull Bragantino beat bottom club Chapecoense 3-0. Lucas Barbosa set up the second, and substitute Henry Mosquera added the third on 90 minutes from José Herrera's pass, according to ESPN and Sporting Life. Bragantino had 21 shots to Chapecoense's nine. DR Congo winger Yannick Bolasie started for Chapecoense, who remain last.
Bahia v São Paulo and Remo v Botafogo kicked off at 01:30 WAT on Thursday and were still being played when this report was published.
