Abia Warriors have formally appealed the Nigeria Premier Football League sanctions that followed their Matchday 10 home defeat to Niger Tornadoes, asking the league to withdraw the five-match ban on multimedia officer Chidera Favour Igwe and to revisit the security and broadcast charges that produced a ₦3.25 million bill.
The Umuahia club lost 1-0 to Tornadoes on Sunday 25 October. In the days after that game the NPFL said Abia failed to provide the security agreed at the pre-match technical meeting and that a club official tried to disrupt the live broadcast by harassing a crew member. The fines were ₦1 million for security, ₦2 million for the broadcast incident and ₦250,000 for the crew member's medical treatment, with Igwe suspended from all NPFL activity for five matches, home and away.
Abia's appeal, reported by The Nation, Punch, Blueprint and Sports Beat on 28–29 October, disputes that reading of the night. The club says Igwe did not try to stop the broadcast. According to the club's submission, she objected after the camera stayed on her for a long stretch and then asked the cameraman to move toward the visiting team's section. Abia insists she did not obstruct the crew from doing its job and has asked the league to review the broadcast footage before deciding whether any ban should stand.
Separately, the club is challenging the notice under Rule 8.13.52 of the 2026/27 EUROMATCH NPFL Framework and Rules that alleges inadequate security. Abia says proper arrangements were in place, that Tornadoes left the stadium without molestation or a reported incident, and that the league should check the footage and take the visitors' account before it upholds the ₦1 million security fine.
The appeal matters for more than one club official's availability. A five-match ban would keep Igwe away from Abia's next stretch of league fixtures at a point in the season when media and broadcast compliance sit under a brighter league spotlight, after Warri Wolves, Katsina United and Barau FC were also sanctioned or warned around Matchday 10. Abia says it remains committed to NPFL rules and to working with broadcast partners, but wants fairness and due process on both counts.
No NPFL decision on the appeal had been announced when those reports were filed. TuSport will update once the league replies. For Nigerian supporters following the EuroMatch NPFL, the next signal is whether Igwe's ban and the full ₦3.25 million package are upheld, reduced or withdrawn — not another retelling of the original notice.
