Warri Wolves have filed an appeal against sanctions imposed by the Nigeria Premier Football League after a supporter assaulted a match official following their home draw with Kano Pillars, Daily Post and Complete Sports report.

The Nation says the league fined the club ₦2 million for inadequate security, ₦2 million for the assault, and ₦250,000 as medical compensation for the second assistant referee, who suffered a bleeding nose — a total of ₦4.25 million. Warri Wolves also forfeit three points and three goals from their league tally and must play their next three home matches behind closed doors.

The club said it is seeking leniency because it helped identify and arrest the suspect and has video evidence of its own warnings to the individual. Complete Sports quotes the club saying that if the points deduction stands, Warri Wolves would drop from 12 points to nine and from 14th to 17th.

Katsina United were separately fined ₦2 million for security failures and pitch encroachment in their match against Plateau United. Both clubs had two working days from notification to appeal, according to The Nation. Warri Wolves urged supporters to stay calm while the appeal is heard.
