Minnesota United beat Sporting Kansas City 3-1 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul on Wednesday 28 October, Nigerian time into Thursday morning, completing a second-half comeback in Major League Soccer's regular-season run-in.

Taylor Calheira put Sporting ahead in the 31st minute after Jake Davis's pass was deflected into his path, Sporting Kansas City's match report said. Minnesota thought they had equalised early in the second half when Mauricio González headed in, but video review ruled it out for a foul on Emir Karić in the build-up.

Anthony Markanich headed Minnesota level in the 72nd minute from a Joaquín Pereyra corner. Four minutes later González finished after a Sporting giveaway deep in their own half to make it 2-1. Kelvin Yeboah, found inside the area by Tomás Chancalay, slotted the third in the 88th minute for his 18th league goal of the season and the final 3-1 score, according to the club report and AP News.

The African angle is the story TuSport is tracking from Saint Paul. Yeboah, born in Accra and eligible for Ghana as well as Italy, is Minnesota's leading scorer and closed the match after earlier striking the post. South Africa forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane started and played into the 59th minute before Pereyra replaced him. On the Sporting side, Ghana midfielder Kwaku Agyabeng and forward Stephen Afrifa were in the matchday group — Afrifa started and was replaced in the 58th minute — so African players featured on both teams in a Western Conference fixture that still matters for Minnesota's late-season standing.

Minnesota moved to 38 points from nine wins, 12 defeats and 11 draws (9-12-11). Sporting remain deep in the Western Conference basement on 22 points from six wins, 22 defeats and four draws (6-22-4), the club said. Attendance was 18,354 on a rainy night in Minnesota.

Kick-off was Wednesday evening local time in Minnesota, which is early Thursday morning in West Africa Time. Sporting host FC Dallas in their final home match of the 2026 season on Saturday 31 October at 14:00 Central Time — 20:00 WAT — the same night Dallas visit after their midweek Pioneer Cup loss. Minnesota take three points and Yeboah's 18-goal tally into the closing stretch; for African readers that is the desk takeaway from Allianz Field, not only the Western table graphic.
