Chelsea beat Roma 2-0 at Plough Lane on Wednesday 28 October to stay unbeaten in the UEFA Women's Champions League league phase. The game kicked off at 18:45 WAT, and both goals came after half-time.
Chelsea had the better of the first half but could not score. Roma goalkeeper Rachele Baldi pushed an Alyssa Thompson shot onto the crossbar and also saved from Lauren James, RTÉ reports. Nigeria defender Shukurat Oladipo made a key tackle to stop Aggie Beever-Jones in the Roma box.
Sonia Bompastor replaced Thompson and James at half-time with Ellie Carpenter and Sjoeke Nüsken. The change worked quickly. Carpenter scored on 51 minutes with a low shot after a cross from Wieke Kaptein, and the ball took a deflection on its way in. Kaptein set up the second as well: defender Kadeisha Buchanan headed in her cross from a short corner on 89 minutes, Sky Sports and BBC Sport report.
Chelsea now have seven points from three games and sit top of the league-phase table for now. Roma have one point from three games.
In Unterhaching, Bayern Munich came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Real Madrid in the first competitive meeting between the clubs. Real captain Athenea del Castillo scored after seven minutes from a Linda Caicedo cross, and Lineth Beerensteyn headed in from close range on 22 minutes after a free-kick.
Edna Imade headed in a Klara Bühl corner on the half-hour to make it 2-1. Seven minutes after the break, Momoko Tanikawa curled a left-footed shot into the top corner to level the game. Real goalkeeper Merle Frohms kept Bayern out after that, and substitute Sophie Proost hit the base of the post in stoppage time, the FC Bayern report on OneFootball says. Bayern have five points and Real Madrid three, and both teams are still unbeaten in this season's competition.
RTÉ says Bayern have now played 17 home games in the group stage or league phase of the competition without a defeat.
In Geneva, Servette beat Belgian champions OH Leuven 5-1 for their first ever win in the Women's Champions League, at their ninth attempt, according to RTÉ. Paola Hernández scored twice and Gloria Marinelli also scored twice before Joana Marchão added the fifth. Jada Conijnenberg scored Leuven's goal on 82 minutes.
Two more games, Arsenal v Benfica and OL Lyonnes v Inter, kicked off at 21:00 WAT on Wednesday.
